Do you know how to get rid of bruises? Well, you can’t make your bruise disappear in a jiffy, but you can promote faster healing and reduce the pain. Here’s how you can do this.

Ways To Get Rid Of Bruises
■ Apply ice immediately. This cools your blood vessels, restricting the leakage of blood into the surrounding tissue. Gel-filled ice packs are available at sports stores. You can also use a bag of frozen peas or a piece of flannel soaked in chilled water. Apply on the affected area for 10 minutes. Remove and wait for 20 minutes. Then apply again. Be careful not to over chill the area.
■ In case of arm or leg bruise, wrap an elastic bandage at once. This will press your tissues and inhibit the leakage of blood vessels.
■ It’s important to decrease the blood flow to the bruised area to reduce discoloration. If you bruise your leg or arm, prop it above your heart level for minimal blood flow.
■ After 24 hours of applying ice packs, apply heat to the bruise. This leads to fresh circulation to the area and clears away the accumulated blood. An electrical heating pad works best. Use it for 20 minutes many times a day. Place the pad on top of the bruised limb, not under, to prevent burns.
■ If not a pad, you can use a hot water bottle or warm compress.
■ Mix vinegar in warm water and apply. It speeds up healing and promotes blood flow near the surface of skin. Witch hazel also works well.
■ Arnica is an herb used since long to get rid of bruises. A compound present in it decreases inflammation. It’s available in the form of gel or ointment.
■ Crush some fresh parsley leaves and apply over the bruised area. Wrap an elastic bandage over the area.

Do You Know……
You may have Vitamin K deficiency, if you bruise too easily. This vitamin is responsible for strong capillary walls to avoid their easy leakage of blood. You can get this vitamin from brussel sprouts, kale, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, and multivitmain supplements. Also, eat more citrus fruits and peppers to get adequate Vitamin C. You may also take supplements containing up to 1000 mg of this vitamin daily in small doses.

Always consult a doctor before starting any supplement.

You’ve applied ways on how to get rid of bruises, yet it’s still there and starts to swell. Call your doctor at once. It could be something serious.
