As well as the nasty visual appearance of mold and its ability to ruin clothes, furniture and surfaces it can also cause some serious health problems.Mold produces tiny spores which contaminate the air and even water.
These spores when ingested can trigger allergic reactions in people, asthma attacks, sinus problems and other conditions. The people who are most susceptible are young children, pregnant women, anyone with an allergy, asthma sufferers, elderly people and anyone who has a breathing/respiratory problem or condition.
Removal of mold

Some mold are more toxic and can cause very serous effects, sometimes even fatal. Identification of mould is essential to begin effective removal. If anyone in your house experiences any of the following symptoms - skin rash, nasal problems (fever, headache, diarrhoea), soar itchy eyes, wheezing or difficult breathing. These may all be symptoms of mould in the house producing spores which are carried through the air. Small patches of mold can be treated and removed with a mixtures of bleach and water. Approximately 1 gallon of water to 1 cup of bleach. After application the mold should be removed by scrubbing the surface. Protective clothing, goggles, gloves etc should be worn at all times. If the mold is not moist and has dried out on the surface simple rubbing it away can be dangerous as it releases spores into the air.

Prevention of mold goes hand in hand with prevention of dampness. So after any big spillage of liquid or floods etc its important to completely dry of the affected area to prevent growth of mold. If an area is prone to dampness and mold growth then switching on a humidifier can help to reduce the humid environment which supports mold growth.
