
Mouth ulcers are round red soars which appear inside the mouth which can be pretty uncomfortable and painful. They can make eating pretty difficult (especially sharp or spicy foods)and you need to avoid touching them when brushing your teeth for example as direct contact can be petty soar.
They don’t tend to last for long maybe a few days to a week but some people are more susceptible than others to mouth ulcers and get reoccurring bouts of mouth ulcers which can be pretty miserable.
Causes are not definitive but some triggers which are believed to bring on mouth ulcers are as follows
Stressful lifestyle
hormone changes
menstruation
Sudden weight loss
food allergies (e.g. food hypersensitivity)
vitamin deficiencies (iron, folate or vitamin B12)
What not to do.
Do not touch, press or squeeze the ulcer with your fingers or tongue, this will only inflame the ulcer. Obviously avoid hot, spicy and salty foods as they can all aggravate mouth ulcers.
How to get Rid of Mouth Ulcers
Medication form the chemist such as Bonjela many claim works well to ease the pain of mouth ulcers and promote faster recovery.
Some home remedies are as follows:
Probably the most common home remedy is the use of warm salt water. Put a few teaspoons of salt in to a glass of warm water, dissolve the salt then swirl the water around your mouth. Repeat 2 to 3 times per day until it clears up.
Application of Bicarbonate of Soda is another hailed remedy. Dabbed the Bicarbonate of Soda on the ulcer using your finger and leave it for a few minutes. It should sting a bit but then you should experience pain relief and it will clear up the ulcer quickly
Some people claim that to treat really bad mouth ulcers you should take raw coconut, break it into pieces , add some sugar and chew on this 4 to 5 times per day.
Fresh Aloevera mixed with water and swirled around the mouth is another suggestion.
